Greetings from
Porter's Camera Store!

Now how do you move the pictures you've taken from the camera to the computer? There are basically three different ways to make this transfer.

1. Most cameras come with a USB cable for this purpose. First, load the driver software that came with the camera into the computer so it will recognize your camera. Then connect the USB cable to an empty USB port on the back of your computer, the other end to the USB terminal on your camera and you're all set. Keep in mind this does drain your camera's batteries, so have some spares or use an AC adapter.

2. Another way is to use an adapter to adapt your camera's memory card to download images to a slot on your computer. Porter's has 3-1/2" floppy adapters for SmartMedia cards and Memory Sticks for desktop computers and also SmartMedia and Compact Flash adapters that plug into the PC card slot on a laptop. Adapters eliminate the need to plug cords into hard-to-reach ports. They don't add wear and tear to your camera or tie it up, preventing other people from using the camera while you're downloading images.

3. The third way is to use a card reader, perhaps the easiest way to transfer images. A reader is a device that connects to the computer and has a slot to accept the camera memory card. The reader can be left attached to the computer all the time. When you go to My Computer on a Windows computer, the card reader will show up as another drive. By double-clicking on the icon, you can copy the pictures over to your computer's hard drive.

WEB STORE ANNOUNCEMENT!
We've just changed the software that runs our web store http://www.porters.com and you'll appreciate the many improvements!

One important new feature that has been frequently requested is search by number. Now you can click on the SEARCH button and search by either typing in the product name or the product number listed in our catalog or flyer. It will bring up the product name, price and a thumbnail picture. A second click will expand the product listing to the full description and a larger picture.

We've had an EXPRESS ORDER FORM on our other web store for the past few months, but it didn't add in the current prices of the items ordered, nor did it calculate shipping charges. The Express Order Form in our new store is part of the store product database and enters this information automatically so you can order from our catalog and check out quickly.

Have you ever forgotten your password? With our new store, your password will be e-mailed to you if you've forgotten it, saving time and frustration.

Our new store allows the products to be featured in MULTIPLE CATEGORIES, so if you often search by browsing through a category, a particular item will be much easier to find. A Related Items feature makes it easier to add accessories to your purchase. For example, if a camera doesn't include a battery, the correct battery is listed under the camera description as a Related Item. This eliminates having to search through the battery department for the right one.

The quality of the product images is also much better than in our old store. As you open up a category list, a thumbnail image is displayed along with the product name and price. Clicking on a product opens up the full description and a much larger photo.
