You’ve probably seen photos that are clearly marked “copyright” with the photographer’s name. This leaves no doubt as to who created the photo and helps reduce its unauthorized use. Frank Zaremba, a member of PortersBoard, wrote a lesson on how to do this in just a few steps with Photoshop Elements. Making a Copyright Brush
This article covers how to create a copyright log by using the brush tool in Photoshop Elements. Whenever you want to add a copyright to your image, you can just use this brush. Once you’ve set it up, no more typing is required to add it to a photo.

I use Photoshop Elements 5 on a Window XP computer; however this should work with other versions, and perhaps with other photo editing programs.

1. Let’s start with a blank image, any size will do. So let’s start at 800 x 600. Make sure the Background Contents is set to Transparent.



2. Select the font that you want to use and type your name with the copyright symbol © as the first character. On a PC, create the symbol by entering 0169 while you hold down the alt key.

3. When you are happy with the text, crop the image to get the text only.

4. Select the brush tool and note what brush group is selected. This is where your copyright brush will be placed.



5. Select Edit-> define brush. When the dialog window opens you can name your newly created copyright brush.

Your copyright brush tool is now ready to use. Whenever you want to add a copyright, just select the brush tool and the group (from step 4) and you are good to go. Place and size the brush where you want it and click once. If you put your copyright on a separate layer, you will be able to add “Layer Styles” to your copyright brush tool. Using this brush is just like using any other brush. Have fun!
